The Zoo

While Tim’s parents were here, we took a trip to the zoo. This was the first time we went when Calvin actually cared a little bit about the animals, so it was fun! We actually bought an annual pass, so we will be going more often. It’s not something we normally would have done, but sometimes we need to be forced out of our home and backyard and do other things. Having already spent the money to go makes us do that.

I think Calvin’s favourite part was the petting zoo. And it was probably the sheep’s and goat’s favourite part of their day when they got a Calvin hug.

We’ve already been back once since, and it was great! I think we could just go for a quick hour, and see something different every time. That way it stays interesting.

Gampa & Gampa Visit

To Calvin, there is no distinction between Grandpa and Grandma. But it is a big step up from Papa for Grandpa and nothing at all for Grandma.

A couple weeks ago, Tim’s parents came out for a visit and to help with some yard work. The yard work took up the majority of the time, but lots of fun was still had.

They brought their camping trailer, and Calvin loved to spend time in there. Mostly because there were snacks.

If there were tools around, Calvin had to help out!

Thanks for coming and spending time with us!

Oma Came to Visit

It seems Spring is the time for the family matriarchs to visit!

My mom flew out last weekend to celebrate Calvin’s birthday with us, and it was great to have her here, as always.  As per usual, we didn’t do anything special, but spent good time together. And the boys got spoiled with new books and clothes.

Mom also stuffed a birthday gift for Calvin in her luggage. A Little People car ramp thing! Calvin has lots of fun with it. As much as I don’t really like these kind of big toys, I am realizing that these kinds of toys are good for Calvin as he grows older and can do things beyond stacking blocks in towers and smashing them over.

Everybody needs a hug, no matter how little they are.

It was impossible to get a decent photo of mom with both boys. Calvin is two, remember?

So we settled on individual portraits.

Thanks for the visit and everything you do for us while you are here!

My Birthday

On the 7th, I turned 27. I have to say, it was a lovely day!

Tim’s mom was here, so I had company throughout the morning. We had French Toast for breakfast. Yum! Then we hung around the house. In the afternoon, I was able to leave the boys with Mom and pick Tim up early from work and go out for lunch! We went to the Cactus Club, since Tim had a gift certificate from Christmas. Then we headed home for the rest of the day.

For supper we made pizza, and Calvin even joined in on the process!

While we were out in the afternoon, Mom had made a carrot cake for me. It was yummy!

And that was my day. Perfect.

Grandma Came to Visit

Last week, Tim’s mom flew out for a little visit.

Unfortunately, on here first day here, Calvin was feeling unexplainably under the weather. But that just meant there were lots of cuddles to be had!

Then he got better, and there was lots of play time to be had!

And lots of books to be read!

And then the weather turned for the better and there was lots of outdoors to enjoy. I just don’t have any proof of that!

Thanks for coming, Mom!

Family Day Long Weekend

Alberta just had their Family Day and Tim was done with all his crazy amounts of overtime on Thursday night, so we had the entire weekend to enjoy together!  What added to the “family” part of the weekend was that Jordan was in town (and actually is staying with us all week), so we got to spend time with him and Amy as well.

Saturday was a park day.

Sunday was game day. Go Team Canada!

You can tell we are watching hockey because Calvin is wearing a team Canada hat. Obviously.

On the holiday Monday, we partook in the free admission the Royal Alberta Museum was offering. I think Calvin is still a bit too young to fully enjoy it, but it was at least a little fun for him. Especially the live snake (not pictured), and the tarantula!

One exhibit had little capes for the kids to wear around. It was cute.

And then the weekend was over. Hope you all enjoyed yours!

Hockey Day in Lloydminster

Yesterday was Scotiabank’s Hockey Day in Canada. Since it happened to be hosted in Lloydminster, where Jordan lives, we decided to make the 2.5-hour trip and take a little day trip out there. Half an hour outside of Edmonton I realized I forgot the camera, so I started the day off a little sad, but it got lots better!

Never have I felt so Canadian as I did, wandering around taking in the sights at the event. We were there from 9:30 – 12:00, and could’ve stayed a lot longer if not for Calvin. It’s always Calvin’s fault! Just kidding.

There was outdoor hockey.

We watched a little bit of it. And by little, I mean the puck drop. Calvin has needs, and those needs are mainly to run around and not sit still to enjoy things.

IMG_4914

There were also tons of free activities, like chuck wagon racing, dog sled rides, snow shoeing, horse pulled wagon rides, a hay bale maze, rinks to skate on, and hills to slide down.

IMG_4942

Inside the buildings were more activities for kids, lots of parephenalia, and of course, trophies, trophies trophies!

The stick has a use, Calvin!

Jordan and Amy were patient enough to stand in line. We were not, but handed Calvin over so he could be in the shot!

We spent the afternoon at Jordan’s little home. Calvin was super restless since he wouldn’t stay in Jordan’s bed for a nap, so the two of them went into the hallway and continued the hockey theme of the day.

IMG_4915

Calvin finally napped when he went with the guys to pick up pizza. And he was sleepy enough when they returned that he stayed sleeping in the bed! It was really cute when he got up though, since he can obviously get out of that bed and the door has a lever handle, so he just let himself out of the room all happy when he woke up.

Amy was gracious enough to let Calvin steal her pizza while she wasn’t looking. I think he ate close to two pieces!

Oh, and Victor was there too.

It was a good, long day, and I’m glad Lloydminster isn’t farther away. We may do more trips like this in the future!
