SH – Calvin in the Snow

While Tim is up in Fort McMurray on his business trip, I am completing a photo scavenger hunt he created for me to work through so I stay busy and he can get new photos of our boy.
(see the whole list here

Calvin making a snow angel in his snow suit.

On Thursday is snowed what I consider a good amount. Probably between 4 and 6 inches. It is supposed to warm up in the next couple days, so before it disappeared, I thought I should get Calvin out there for his first real experience in the white fluff. He was incredibly emotionless and motionless the entire time.

Photo Scavenger Hunt

Tim decided to make me a photo scavenger hunt to keep myself busy while he is away, and probably also so he could get more photos of Calvin. :)

UPDATE: Not all the items got completed for a couple good reasons. One, I got busy with meeting up with people (yay!), and two, Tim came home a little bit earlier than expected (YAY!).

Here is the list he came up with:

  • Calvin making a snow angel in his snowsuit (completed)
  • Calvin and mommy sharing an ice cream cone
  • Mommy and Calvin wearing some of each other’s clothes (completed)
  • Calvin and mommy upside-down together (completed)
  • Calvin shovelling the driveway
  • A walk in the park
  • Calvin and Max going for a ride
  • Mommy and Calvin’s best artwork (Mommy can help Calvin draw!) (completed)
  • Calvin helping mommy make dinner (completed)
  • Calvin talking to Oma on the phone or Skype
  • PARTY TIME!!!
  • Calvin talking to Grandma on the phone or Skype
  • Go, Canucks, go! (A photo that represents this idea.)
  • Calvin and Mommy meeting Wayne Gretzky’s statue at Rexall Place
  • Calvin and Mommy playing video games together. (Bonus point if it isn’t on the iPad!)
  • Calvin making a new friend
  • Mommy and Calvin reading books (completed)
  • Calvin beating up Uncle Jordan (completed)
  • Calvin getting a shoulder ride from Auntie Michelle (completed)
  • Mommy and Calvin’s funniest faces!
So over the next week or more, I will be completing these tasks. The snow related ones will probably have to be done in the next couple days since it looks like it will be warming up. But these all sound like fun things to do and will keep me busy and some will get me out of the house! I think it will be fun!

A photo of us on our road trip honeymoon, just ’cause I miss him.

A Husbandless Week

This past week Tim has been gone up north in Fort McMurray on a business trip. He will still be there another week, possibly two, so it’s just me and Calvin here at home for a good chunk of time. It’s not my favourite thing in the world.

The days when Tim would normally be gone to work are normal, filled with me doing laundry and watching TV (seriously, what is so difficult about leaving the house just to go on a walk…I need a kick to the bum) and tickling Calvin trying to get him to laugh. As easy as it is for him to smile, it sure takes a lot of work to get the tiniest giggle out of that boy.

The evenings would normally be really lonely because that is when Tim would normally be home, but the have miraculously been filled!

Monday – I met up with my friend, Brittany, who I knew in Victoria
Tuesday – I was scheduled to be a part of a focus group (So fun by the way. If you have the chance to do it, do it!) so Jordan and Amy came over for dinner and to watch Calvin afterwards
Wednesday – Halloween! I stayed home and our friends Robyn and Adam came over with some Chinese food and handed out candy with me, then Skyped with Anna back in Victoria
Thursday – I had coffee with yet another Victorian transplant, Alina, who I hadn’t seen in a few years

And of course I Skype with Tim every evening, too. I miss hanging out with him after Calvin goes to bed. So we turn on our web cams and play games with each other on the iPad and his iPhone. So thankful for technology!

We will see what will come up this weekend and next week to keep me occupied. Maybe I will get some Christmas shopping done. Maybe do a bunch of baking. Maybe try another church. Maybe meet up with friends again. The possibilities are (almost) endless!

How would you keep yourself occupied if you were spouse-less with a baby?

Calvin Update – 6.5 Months

Calvin has been doing lots of learning these past few weeks! Here is what he is up to:

Pretty much getting on all fours! He isn’t quite mobile yet, but probably soon.

He tries really hard to reach things when he is sitting down, so sometimes I find him like this (just as I was typing this, I heard him get annoyed and looked behind me to see that he was trying to pull himself up on the post of the coffee table…just needs to figure out how to get his feet under him!):

He also learned how to open the coffee table drawer! I had to replace the PlayStation controllers with some toys. He thinks it’s so fun!

The other day he was sitting on the floor by the computer while I was making supper, and I looked over to find him making his first mess. I didn’t think I sat him down that close to the computer!

But one of the most fun things he is learning to do is crawl into my lap! I love it!

The Mall

You know the one I am talking about. The one with the water park, roller coasters, movie theater, ice rink, and aquarium. If you ever come to visit on a weekend, I am not taking you there. Feel free to go on your own, but going there this weekend just made me hate shopping even more than I already did. However, I think it will prove to be a great place to go on wintery (week) days when I need to get out of the house. Walking around that entire place would take a considerable amount of time! And the crowds are non-existent at opening.

Weekend Visitors

As I mentioned last week, my mom and sister came to visit! It’s always a pretty casual, relaxing time with them. We did some shopping, carved pumpkins, and Calvin gave them lots of cuddles. I am very glad they were able to make it out and see where we now live. Plus, they were able to bring a few of the items we had to leave behind! I now have my vacuum cleaner and my Christmas decorations. Hooray!

Rosie puts a lot of effort into her pumpkin. I do not.

Cuddles with Oma

I’m not the only one who has to feed him anymore!

Saying goodbye early Sunday morning.

It was fun having guests, and I look forward to more in the future!
