This past week Tim has been gone up north in Fort McMurray on a business trip. He will still be there another week, possibly two, so it’s just me and Calvin here at home for a good chunk of time. It’s not my favourite thing in the world.
The days when Tim would normally be gone to work are normal, filled with me doing laundry and watching TV (seriously, what is so difficult about leaving the house just to go on a walk…I need a kick to the bum) and tickling Calvin trying to get him to laugh. As easy as it is for him to smile, it sure takes a lot of work to get the tiniest giggle out of that boy.
The evenings would normally be really lonely because that is when Tim would normally be home, but the have miraculously been filled!
Monday – I met up with my friend, Brittany, who I knew in Victoria
Tuesday – I was scheduled to be a part of a focus group (So fun by the way. If you have the chance to do it, do it!) so Jordan and Amy came over for dinner and to watch Calvin afterwards
Wednesday – Halloween! I stayed home and our friends Robyn and Adam came over with some Chinese food and handed out candy with me, then Skyped with Anna back in Victoria
Thursday – I had coffee with yet another Victorian transplant, Alina, who I hadn’t seen in a few years
And of course I Skype with Tim every evening, too. I miss hanging out with him after Calvin goes to bed. So we turn on our web cams and play games with each other on the iPad and his iPhone. So thankful for technology!
We will see what will come up this weekend and next week to keep me occupied. Maybe I will get some Christmas shopping done. Maybe do a bunch of baking. Maybe try another church. Maybe meet up with friends again. The possibilities are (almost) endless!
How would you keep yourself occupied if you were spouse-less with a baby?
Aww, I hate when Peter’s away for anything and I can imagine it would be much tougher with a little baby. Glad you’re able to fill up your evenings. I generally use Peter’s absence as an excuse to eat junk food and watch TV he makes fun of.
I find myself doing a lot more “grazing” during the day because there isn’t a specific dinner meal to plan for, which is why I try not to have too much junk food in the house, because I know myself! Haha!
It’s a good thing Calvin isn’t too much work yet. I think it would be a lot tougher when he is a toddler and needs eyes on him all the time.
