Oma Came to Visit

It seems Spring is the time for the family matriarchs to visit!

My mom flew out last weekend to celebrate Calvin’s birthday with us, and it was great to have her here, as always.  As per usual, we didn’t do anything special, but spent good time together. And the boys got spoiled with new books and clothes.

Mom also stuffed a birthday gift for Calvin in her luggage. A Little People car ramp thing! Calvin has lots of fun with it. As much as I don’t really like these kind of big toys, I am realizing that these kinds of toys are good for Calvin as he grows older and can do things beyond stacking blocks in towers and smashing them over.

Everybody needs a hug, no matter how little they are.

It was impossible to get a decent photo of mom with both boys. Calvin is two, remember?

So we settled on individual portraits.

Thanks for the visit and everything you do for us while you are here!

Calvin Is 2

Today marks the end of Calvin’s second year! 2nd Year Collage

In the past year he has had so much life happen to him.

He learned to walk.

He gained an uncle and a cousin.

He gained another cousin.

He did lots of road trips.

He moved to a new house.

He grew some hair.

He became a brother.

He learned some words.

He remained a happy, silly dude.

We are looking forward to this next year as his personality develops even more and we get to experience life alongside this wonderful little boy. And I hope it isn’t two-terrible!

See what I did there?

Birthday Boy

Throwback Thursday: 1 1/2 Years Ago

One and a half years ago we moved to Edmonton. One and a half years ago, Calvin was the same age Victor is now (yes, I know I will always be able to say that). This seems unreal to me. Calvin was still such a baby when we came here? It seems that he has always been a toddler. I don’t remember him being a baby. When did he grow up? Sheesh. Or maybe Victor is less of a baby than I think he is. Hmmm…

Well, here are a few photos from that time.

Just comparing the two of them at this age, 5-6 months, they are quite different with what they have accomplished. Calvin could roll and sit (evidenced by the Mt. Robson photo), but Victor is content to just not learn this stuff. They were/are both happy babies who are easy to please and quick to smile. It will be fun to see how they grow up to be individuals.

Here is a photo of Victor, for a visual comparison.

Sharing a Room

Last night was the first night Calvin and Victor shared their room. I had no clue how it would go, but past experience told me Calvin wouldn’t do too poorly. When Victor first came onto the scene and was crying at night, it only woke Calvin up for the first two or three days. For the last four nights, I had been putting Victor down for the night in the guest room. It is between our room and the boys’ room, so I thought it would be a nice little transition for Calvin, with the crying noise a little closer, but not right beside him. It only woke Calvin up on the first night.

Last night, Victor woke up twice between 8:00 and 11:00 (once because he was apparently hungry, and the second time because his tummy was gurgly). Neither time Calvin woke up. Yes!

And then Victor went on to sleep for 5 more hours! Lately he has been doing 3 at the most at a time, so that was wonderful! And Calvin didn’t wake up that time either.

I know it has been only one night, so I can’t really call it a complete success yet, but I am pleased with the results so far. I feel like one reason Victor may have slept longer is that I got a prescription cream for his skin yesterday, so maybe he wasn’t waking up from itchiness? I don’t know if that was the reason he used to wake up, but it’s hard to know. He always went back to sleep really easily.

But anyways, hooray for them sharing so nicely, and hooray for us having a room to ourselves!

Currently the boys are napping peacefully.

I love that Calvin still sleeps like this.

My Birthday

On the 7th, I turned 27. I have to say, it was a lovely day!

Tim’s mom was here, so I had company throughout the morning. We had French Toast for breakfast. Yum! Then we hung around the house. In the afternoon, I was able to leave the boys with Mom and pick Tim up early from work and go out for lunch! We went to the Cactus Club, since Tim had a gift certificate from Christmas. Then we headed home for the rest of the day.

For supper we made pizza, and Calvin even joined in on the process!

While we were out in the afternoon, Mom had made a carrot cake for me. It was yummy!

And that was my day. Perfect.

Grandma Came to Visit

Last week, Tim’s mom flew out for a little visit.

Unfortunately, on here first day here, Calvin was feeling unexplainably under the weather. But that just meant there were lots of cuddles to be had!

Then he got better, and there was lots of play time to be had!

And lots of books to be read!

And then the weather turned for the better and there was lots of outdoors to enjoy. I just don’t have any proof of that!

Thanks for coming, Mom!

Calvin Talking

Calvin has a small, and slowly growing vocabulary. I love every single one of his words and phrases. It’s so cute, and fun to watch him learn and experiment with sounds.

He says the normal “mamma”, “dadda”, “ball”, “up”etc. And he has the common problem of replacing Ls with Ys. So words like “hello” and “please” come out as “heyo” and “peas”.

The fun part is that there are a couple sentences he says. I don’t think he knows they are sentences, just a long word. They are demonstrated in the video below.

You can probably figure it out, but his sentences are “where did it go?” that sounds like “go go go?” and “there it is!”that sounds like, well, I don’t know how to write it. Haha!

Oh, and his counting! “Doo, doo, doo, go!” He loves to count down (up? who can tell?) to jumping, throwing, running, kicking…I love that he has the counting intonation.

Anyways, that’s what Calvin is up to. Growing up into a big boy.
